Yayın A Scoping review of artificial intelligence applications in airports(Sigma Xplore, 2024) Amiri, Misagh Haji; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüThis paper aims to synthesize the literature on the application of artificial intelligence for airports. The selected methodology was based on the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), a recognized framework for systematic reviews. Authors searched the Scopus and Web of Science databases for articles that met the following criteria: (1) publication in peer-reviewed journals, (2) English language, and (3) relevance to airport operations, demonstrated by either (a) the use of airport datasets for showcasing AI applications or (b) the use of airports as case studies. Articles were assessed by two reviewers, and data were extracted on the articles’ keywords, publication year, and origin country. After screening and checking for eligibility, 121 unique articles were examined. Upon assessment, the included articles were categorized into seven main themes. Each category and its specific subtopics were individually discussed within this paper. Results indicate that the most extensively studied category belongs to airport administration and management. Security and air traffic control (ATC) were the second and third most studied categories, respectively. Notably, a significant portion of the articles focused on optimization techniques, scheduling strategies, and developing decision support systems (DSS) tailored to various airport departments. This paper not only highlights current research trends in the field of AI for airports but also identifies gaps in the existing literature. Hence these differences affect their decisions. This research provides a clear look for antecedent studies on consumer decision-making styles (DMS), connects the findings of those studies with today's consumers, and determine a new dimension of the consumers' DMS that affected by new consumer trends, which is thriving by environmental awareness of consumers. Where, less plastic usage and more green products are consumed by environmentally friendly consumers. The research starts with a brief summary of consumers' DMS dimensions, explains the need for the new dimension, clarifies consumers DMS of people that live in Başakşehir, Istanbul, and make suggestions for firm managers, marketers and the future researches. Lastly, results show that six out of eight factors suggested by Sproles and Kendall, [1986], are validated by the research. Whereas, two of the factors are not confirmed, and a new dimension has determined, which is named as “environmentally conscious consumer".Yayın Performance measurement of composite textile industries in Pakistan using data envelopment analysis(2018) Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Jasmin, Mariam; Bushera, İbrahim; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüThis study aims at evaluating and measuring the relative technical efficiency of Pakistan’s textile industry vertically integrated composite firms using Data Envelopment Analysis under the assumption of variable returns to scale (VRS). The data used for this study is collected from the firm’s official website and the Karachi Stock Exchange. This output oriented study covers 29 firms for the period of 2014-2016 employing three homogeneous inputs and outputs. Current asset, production cost and administration cost of the firms are used as inputs elements, gross profit, and total sales and net income compromised the output constituent. In addition to evaluating technical efficiency, this paper examines variations among efficient and inefficient firms. Our findings indicate that, only 17% percent of the firms are scale efficient while 35% of the firms are technically efficient with a mean value of 0.731. Our analysis also indicates an average of 0.572 technical efficiency from constant returns to scale DEA, an average of 0.731 of technical efficiency from variable returns to scale DEA, and an average of 0.805 Scale efficiency. Accordingly, this study confirmed the existence of scale and technical efficiency difference between the firms of the same industry. Though the determinant and factors of efficiency difference among firms is not examined in this study, we recommend that inefficient firms need to enhance their scale size and perk up their managerial practices to enhance their overall efficiency.Yayın The effects of frequent flyer programs in the airline industry on customer loyalty(Research and Development Academy, 2021) Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Şahin, Hande; Mbowe, Baboucarr; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüCustomer Loyalty Programs are one of the handiest tools to raise brand awareness, and secure long-term and strong ties between a brand and existing consumers. Airline companies have been using frequent flyer programs (FFPs) to retain customers with the expectation of increasing passengers’ loyalty levels. The purpose of this study was to examine the significance of FFPs for customer loyalty, which is of great help for customer retention in the civil aviation industry in the sample of passengers flying from the new Istanbul Airport. Furthermore, we questionedthe effectiveness of various services and products offered within FFPs for loyalty, which is decomposed into two main components, behavioral, and attitudinal commitment of loyalty. We evaluatedthe significance of various demographic factors on passengers’ perception of FFPs services and privileges, and customer loyalty. The study confirmedthe vital role of FFPs to build up brand loyalty, where profession, duration of the membership to FFPs, and gender are essential factors.Yayın Adapting social media strategies: a comparative analysis of Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Emirates before, during, and after the COVID-19 Pandemic(Bussecon International Academy, 2023) Kim, Tatyana; Kuşakcı, Ali OsmanIn recent years, the aviation industry has transformed significantly, driven by the increasing importance of digital technologies and social media for communication and marketing. The COVID- 19 pandemic accelerated this transformation, posing unprecedented challenges to airlines. The present study investigates how Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Emirates adapted their social media strategies before, during, and after the pandemic. The research has a threefold focus: (i) assessing pre- pandemic social media strategies, (ii) examining strategy evolution during the pandemic, and (iii) comparing the effectiveness of these strategies before and after COVID-19. By exploring how these airlines leveraged social media to navigate pandemic-related disruptions and maintain vital connections with passengers, this study provides valuable insights. These findings hold significant implications for aviation stakeholders, marketing professionals, and researchers, shedding light on the evolving role of social media in crisis communication and marketing. The study uncovered interesting changes in how airlines use Twitter. After the pandemic, they started using more emojis, and their messages shifted from promoting services to expressing hope during the pandemic and back to promotions afterward. They played with visuals and hashtags. Pricing-wise, they offered discounts for students, different ticket options, and bundled services. In promotions, they focused on being environmentally and socially responsible, user convenience, and specific events. They mainly shared updates on flights, achievements, and travel advice. To engage people, they used quizzes, replied directly to customers, and targeted specific groups. For marketing managers, the study suggests being more customer-focused, emphasizing environmental and social responsibility, offering diverse pricing, celebrating milestones, and creating engaging content. Overall, the findings provide practical insights for adjusting marketing strategies in the ever-changing world of airlines, especially considering the challenges brought by COVID-19.Yayın Country selection for energy company’s new branch using fuzzy topsis(Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi, 2019) Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Chlyeh, Douina; Elaiche, Aicha; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüSolar energy is regarded as one of the most important and promising technologies in the field of renewable energies. Turkey has been one of the first countries to adopt solar energy and harness it in the last two decades. Many Turkish companies especially holdings started to invest in North Africa, either by expanding their operations there or through opening new branches and making alliances with the other countries concerned. This paper aims to identify the best North African country for a specific Turkish company to open a solar energy branch. The process involved Fuzzy Topsis multi-criteria decision making where criteria for selection of one of the countries has been collected from experts, and three decision makers have been chosen to rate the criteria in terms of each alternative countries. Fuzzy topsis analysis was chosen because of the level of the uncertainty in this case study. Regardless of the data available concerning each criterion for all the alternative countries, there is still a certain level of ambiguity to overcome. The results of this study suggested that Algeria would be the best choice for this Turkish company to open up a new branch. The second best fitting country would be Egypt followed by Libya. This study incorporates fifty-three indicators on economic, social, environmental, and institutional dimensions to develop a Sustainable Cities Index (SCI) and assess the sustainability performance of thirty metropolitans in Turkey over 2010-2018. Turkish metropolitans constitute an appealing case study due to the rapid urbanization within the same time span. To answer how new metropolitans have been doing and whether they perform better than formerly declared metropolitans in Turkey, we propose a novel methodology with three stages that hybridizes Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (IT2F-AHP) and Complex Proportional Assessment of Alternatives (COPRAS). The former captures a high degree of uncertainty due to the subjective weight assignment by the experts, while the latter calculates aggregate scores for 30 cities. Finally, we conduct posthoc analyses to examine the significance of the urbani-zation policies in Turkey on the SCI scores. Thus, the study provides valuable insights into urbanization practices and encourages local administrations to spend more effort balancing the benefits and costs of public policies on sustainability.Yayın Efficiency analysis of major airlines: Exploring the operational performance determinants in aviation(Springer, 2024) Yalçın, Kübra Çınar; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Tatoğlu, EkremThis paper evaluates the performances and dynamics of productivity changes of 38 airlines from different regions of the world between 2015 and 2019, assessing the effects of business model, alliance membership, the economic development level of the home country, and size on the operational performance of the airlines. In this regard, first, constant returns to scale (CRS) and variable returns to scale (VRS) input-oriented data envelopment analysis (DEA) models with three inputs and two outputs are implemented. The input-oriented CRS model super-efficiency DEA is also used to discriminate between efficient airlines. The Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) estimates efficiency dynamics across time. Further, the determinants of operational efficiencies are assessed by applying Mann-Whitney rank-sum tests. The analysis results show that most airlines suffer from scale inefficiency. MPI signifies productivity deterioration in airlines’ performance. It is found that low-cost carriers (LCC) have performed better than full-service carriers and alliance member airlines are less efficient than non-member airlines. Additionally, developed country airlines show better performance than their emerging country counterparts. Lastly, the size of airlines measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) is found to have no statistically significant effect on performance.Yayın Assessment of sustainable aviation fuel production methods using a hybridized decision-making framework(Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt Üniversitesi, 2024) Ibrahim, Ibrahim Temam; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Abdullah, Amna; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüSustainable aviation fuels (SAF) present a feasible solution to decarbonize modern aviation. Unlike traditional jet fuels, SAFs are produced in a variety of ways, thereby choosing one of these processes is a complicated Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) challenge that involves conflicting priorities. This study evaluates SAF production processes using a multicriteria methodology, PROMETHEE II. With SAF technology in its nascent stage and limited data, several stakeholders in the aviation sector were enlisted to assist in the collection of data and preferences. The suggested framework’s strength lies in its adaptability to suit the subjective opinions of diverse stakeholders, selection of a ranking system, and robustness of outcomes. This research engaged stakeholders in a participatory manner to rank 11 (A1 to A11) SAF production paths based on 24 parameters categorized into social, environmental, economic, and technological evaluation criteria. Industry professionals were given a form to rate SAF production methods according to a performance criterion. Data is validated using fuzzy TOPSIS, fuzzy VIKOR, and PROMETHEE II to reduce professionals’ judgmental personal prejudice. Results indicate the optimal feedstock for SAF production is the direct transition process of CO2 to SAF (A11) in the gasification or Fischer-T synthesis group.Yayın Impact of social sustainability on supply chain performance with mediating effect of differentiation: The case of Moroccan manufacturing firms(Inderscience Enterprises, 2022) Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Elaiche, Aicha; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüThis study examines the relationship between social sustainability practices (SSPs) and supply chain performance (SCP) indicators in the context of Moroccan manufacturing companies with a three-step research methodology. Among the various supply chain KPIs used in the literature, the three most preferred by supply chain experts were selected with interval type-2 fuzzy AHP (IT2F-AHP) method, which offers an accurate approach in subjective decision-making situations. Afterwards, the data collected with the developed instrument were evaluated using the structural equation modelling (SEM) technique. Lastly, in order to understand the nature of the inferred relationship, the moderating role of differentiation, as a competitive advantage strategy, was assessed. The findings obtained show that there is a significant relationship between social sustainability and SCP for the Moroccan manufacturing sector, which may inspire further research in other developing markets. Additionally, it has been found that differentiation has a total mediation effect on the two aforementioned constructs' relationship.
