Yayın Introspective awareness and its predictive power on health anxiety: A cross-sectional study(Gonabad University of Medical Sciences, 2025) Bulut, Sefa; Saadati, Nadereh; Al-Dossary, Saeed Abdullah; Coelho, Olga; Rostami, Mehdi; Parsakia, Kamdin; Zadhasn, Zohreh; Tabar, Seyed Hadi Seyed Ali; Abadi, Parichehr Mehdi; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüBackground: The COVID-19 pandemic has precipitated widespread health anxiety, affecting populations globally. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between introspective awareness and health anxiety levels. Methods: Employing a cross-sectional design and the convenience sampling method, 350 residents of Richmond Hill of Canada with an age of 18 and above participated in this study in year 2023. Health anxiety was assessed using the Health Anxiety Inventory (HAI), while introspective awareness was measured via the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA), encompassing eight subscales. Pearson correlation and linear regression analyses were conducted to explore the predictive relationships between introspective awareness components and health anxiety. Results: The participants had a slight female predominance (53.43%), diverse age distribution, and the majority having post-secondary education (81.43%). Noticing (r = -0.45, p < 0.001) and Emotional Awareness (r = -0.48, p < 0.001) demonstrated significant negative correlations with health anxiety, indicating their potential protective roles while other subscales showed no significant predictive role individually (p > 0.05). The regression model revealed that these components significantly predicted health anxiety levels, accounting for approximately 42% of the variance (R^2 = 0.42, F(2, 347) = 48.35, p < 0.001). Specifically, increases in Noticing and Emotional Awareness were associated with decreases in health anxiety scores (B = -3.45 and B = -4.12, respectively; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Considering the results, enhancing aspects of introspective awareness, such as Noticing and Emotional Awareness, could be crucial in developing interventions aimed at reducing health anxiety in pandemic conditions and beyond.Yayın Living with fibromyalgia: A phenomenological study of pain, fatigue, and coping(KMAN Publication, 2024) Rostami, Mehdi; Bulut, Sefa; Coelho, Olga; Riyono, Bagus; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüThis phenomenological study aims to explore the lived experiences of individuals diagnosed with fibromyalgia (FM), focusing on their experiences of pain, fatigue, and the coping mechanisms they employ to manage these symptoms.Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 25 participants who have been diagnosed with FM. Participants were recruited from various fibromyalgia support groups and clinics, ensuring a diverse representation in terms of age, gender, and duration of diagnosis. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzedusing thematic analysis to achieve theoretical saturation.Three main themes were identified from the interviews: Pain, Fatigue, and Coping Mechanisms. Under the Pain theme, categories included the nature and characteristics of pain, its impact on physical function, and pain management strategies. The Fatigue theme comprised chronic exhaustion, cognitive fatigue, and its impact on daily activities. For Coping Mechanisms, emotional strategies, physical coping tactics, and social support were highlighted as key categories. These themes underscore the complex interplay between the physical symptoms of FM and the psychological and social strategies employed by individuals to manage their condition. The study highlights the pervasive and multifaceted nature of pain and fatigue in fibromyalgia, significantly impacting individuals' daily lives and functional abilities. It also reveals the importance of effective coping strategies, both adaptive and maladaptive, in managing these symptoms. These findings emphasize the need for a holistic and personalized approach to the management and support of individuals living with FM, incorporating both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.Yayın Psychological and social factors influencing eating behaviors in college athletes(KMAN Publication, 2024) Bulut, Sefa; Rostami, Mehdi; Hajji, Jamel; Boltivets, Sergii; Saadati, Nadereh; Yang, Jiantang; McDonnell, Maura; Chikwe, Chidinma; William, Erwin A.; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüEating behaviors among college athletes are influenced by a complex interplay of psychological, social, and nutritional factors, which can significantly impact their health and performance. Drawing on the principles of ethical decision-making and moral development theory, the intervention sought to provide participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate complex moral dilemmas. Employing a randomized controlled trial design, the study included 50 adolescents aged 12 to 16 years, randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group. The intervention comprised eight 75-minute sessions conducted over four weeks, focusing on moral dilemmas, perspective-taking, ethical decision-making, and reflection on personal values. Sociomoral reasoning was assessed using the Defining Issues Test-2 (DIT-2) at three time points: pre-intervention, post-intervention, and a two-month follow-up. Analysis of Variance with Repeated Measurements indicated significant improvements in sociomoral reasoning scores for the experimental group compared to the control group (p < 0.01). The experimental group showed a notable increase in DIT-2 scores from pre-test to post-test, which was maintained at the two-month follow-up. The Bonferroni Post-Hoc Test further confirmed these findings, highlighting significant advancements in sociomoral reasoning immediately following the workshop, with sustained effects over time. The moral training workshop effectively enhanced sociomoral reasoning among adolescents, suggesting that structured moral education interventions can significantly impact ethical development. These findings underscore the importance of incorporating moral reasoning training in adolescent education, providing a foundation for ethical decision-making that can guide behavior across various life contexts.Yayın Work-life integration in women's lives: A qualitative study(Sage Publications, 2024) Bulut, Solmaz; Rostami, Mehdi; Bulut, Sefa; Bukhori, Baidi; Seyed Alitabar, Seyed Hadi; Tariq, Zarmin; Zadhasn, Zohreh; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüObjective: Work-life integration represents a critical challenge for many, especially women who often navigate complex interplays of professional aspirations and personal responsibilities.
