    Sustainability to financial realities: A comparative study of renewable energy's impact on financial performance

    This study examines the impact of renewable energy (RE) performance on companies' financial performance, primarily focusing on RE-related sustainable development goals (SDGs) and environmental factors. We analyze a sample of 2,737 companies across 47 countries from 2009 to 2018 using panel data analysis. Our results suggest that the effect of RE performance can be understood through three phases: policies adopted, targets established, and actions implemented. Interestingly, RE policies negatively impact profitability due to the substantial costs incurred by companies. Moreover, RE-related SDGs are found to affect companies' financial performance adversely. However, environmental factors demonstrate a positive and significant impact on corporate financial performance, which is observed consistently across developed and emerging countries. Furthermore, RE performance targets and actions have a significant positive impact, specifically in developed countries. This highlights the complex relationship between RE initiatives and financial outcomes, highlighting differential effects across various stages of implementation and geographic contexts.

    Developing potential and realized ACAP: The role of market sensing and responsiveness

    This study explores how firms develop potential and realized absorptive capacity. In doing so, we extend the associations between organizational antecedents (coordination, system, and socialization capabilities) and potential and realized absorptive capacity by integrating market sensing and responsiveness as prerequisite contextual variables. The analysis is conducted using multilevel data obtained from 205 managers of 24 banks. Our findings show that coordination capabilities are positively associated with potential absorptive capacity while system and socialization capabilities are positively associated with realized absorptive capacity. Market responsiveness significantly moderates the relationship between socialization capabilities and realized absorptive capacity, such that the positive effect becomes weaker as market responsiveness increases. Also, market responsiveness significantly moderates the relationship between system capabilities and realized absorptive capacity, such that the positive effect becomes weaker when market responsiveness both increases and to a less extent decreases. The findings provide implications for research and practice on developing potential and realized absorptive capacity.

    Efficiency analysis of major airlines: Exploring the operational performance determinants in aviation

    This paper evaluates the performances and dynamics of productivity changes of 38 airlines from different regions of the world between 2015 and 2019, assessing the effects of business model, alliance membership, the economic development level of the home country, and size on the operational performance of the airlines. In this regard, first, constant returns to scale (CRS) and variable returns to scale (VRS) input-oriented data envelopment analysis (DEA) models with three inputs and two outputs are implemented. The input-oriented CRS model super-efficiency DEA is also used to discriminate between efficient airlines. The Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) estimates efficiency dynamics across time. Further, the determinants of operational efficiencies are assessed by applying Mann-Whitney rank-sum tests. The analysis results show that most airlines suffer from scale inefficiency. MPI signifies productivity deterioration in airlines’ performance. It is found that low-cost carriers (LCC) have performed better than full-service carriers and alliance member airlines are less efficient than non-member airlines. Additionally, developed country airlines show better performance than their emerging country counterparts. Lastly, the size of airlines measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) is found to have no statistically significant effect on performance.

    The impact of information system capabilities on firm performance: A serial multiple mediating model

    This study essentially investigates the effects of information system (IS) capabilities on firm performance. The combination of the resources and competencies that comprise IS capabilities is demonstrated using the resource-based view (RBV). A set of hypotheses is formulated to examine the impact of IS capabilities on decision-making performance and business process performance through the application of the serial multiple mediating model. Drawing on a sample of 204 firms in Turkey, the direct and indirect relationships among the study’s constructs are determined using structural equation modeling (SEM). The test results confirm the proposed serially mediating model. The study also demonstrates that multiple casual links are required for IS capabilities to have an impact on firm performance.
