    Information system capabilities and firm performance: Opening the black box through decision-making performance and business-process performance

    This study contributes to the extant literature on information management by investigating the interrelationships between information systems (IS)-related capabilities and their effects on firm performance. Using the resource-based view (RBV), a set of hypotheses is formulated to examine these links, considering the role that may be played by decision-making performance and business-process performance as mediating variables. Structural equation modeling (SEM) has been applied to a sample of 204 firms in Turkey. The test results obtained confirm the proposed serially mediating model according to which decision-making performance and business-process performance play a critical mediating role in the human resource and administrative-related IS capabilities, and firm-performance relationships. No support, however, has been found concerning the serial mediation effect between infrastructure-related IS capabilities and firm performance.

    Brand management practices in emerging country firms - exploring the patterns of variation and its impact on firm performance

    Firms in emerging countries often face different sets of challenges in developing their brand management strategies. Drawing on the dynamic capabilities view, the present study examines brand management practices among firms in an emerging country. Drawing on a survey of 224 firms in Turkey, the study first aims to segment firms in terms of their adoption level of brand management practices and then relate them to their overall firm and brand performances. A three-cluster solution emerging from a K-means cluster analysis reveals that firms show significant differences with respect to both performance dimensions. The findings of the study also provide evidence to the view that brand management practices add to the dynamic capabilities of emerging country firms. Finally, the study concludes with practical implications and avenues for future research.

    Business analytics adoption and technological intensity: An efficiency analysis

    Despite the overwhelming popularity of business analytics (BA) as an evidence-based decision support mechanism, the impact of its adoption on organizational performance has received scant attention from the research community. This study aims to unfold the adoption efficiencies of BA and its applications by proposing a data envelopment analysis (DEA) methodology to holistically assess the underlying factors with respect to the level of achievement regarding organizational performance, operational performance, and financial performance. Furthermore, the study unveils the firm-level and sectoral-level discrepancies in BA adoption efficiency in different industry settings. Relying on survey data obtained from 204 executives in various industries, this study provides empirical support for the cross-industry differences in BA adoption efficiencies. The results show that the firms in low-tech industries seem to achieve the highest efficiency from adopting BA regarding its influence on firm performance.
