We distinguish between two core components of AC - potential absorptive capacity (PAC) and realized absorptive capacity (RAC) - and examine their independent as well as the joint effect on organizational performance. Then, we examine the moderating effects of environmental dynamism and branch network- as key boundary conditions. With data from 205 bank managers in Turkey, we show that the complementary effect of PAC and RAC on organizational performance is greater than the separate effect of each component. Moreover, the findings indicate that the combined effect becomes stronger when firms are part of an extensive branch network and function in a low level of environmental dynamism. We extend the KBV by demonstrating that innovation and knowledge resource development in emerging markets requires a collective effort and complementary learning processes to yield high results. Finally, we scrutinize the conditions under which firms in emerging markets can complement their learning processes efficiently to achieve greater performance.Yayın How do agile organizations contribute to environmental collaboration? This study examines the relationship between operational agility and environmental collaboration, mediated by individual creativity and flexible work arrangements. Using multilevel analysis of data obtained from 249 managers of 66 multinational enterprises (MNEs) in Turkey, we find that operational agility through individual creativity and flexible work arrangements leads to greater environmental collaboration. Through survey evidence gathered from 198 respondent firms, this study shows that TM, when focused on a series of practices aimed at developing workforce networks and social capital, is a key transmission mechanism mediating the relationship between HRM and firm performance. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to examine whether environmental and social performance mediates the relationship between environmental management practices and operational performance and whether operational performance mediates the relationship between environmental and social performance and financial performance. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on a data set of 208 firms operating in a wide range of manufacturing industries, the authors test the hypotheses using structural equation modeling. The research context for the study is Turkey, an important emerging market and one of the nexuses of European and Asian supply chains. Findings The findings indicate that all three aspects of sustainability have mutually supportive relationships as demonstrated by positive mediating mechanisms between environmental management practices and operational performance and between environmental and social performance and financial performance. The mediation results correspond with the resource-based view. They indicate that building up capabilities and resources in the form of environmental management practices supports three areas of the triple bottom line and boosts firms' financial performance. Originality/value Research on sustainability is well-established, yet supply chain management research has, thus, far paid insufficient attention to all three aspects. This study investigates how this influences equity ownership strategies when firms venture abroad. Drawing on agency theory and institutional theory, we investigate the direct effect of board composition and family ownership on the equity-based ownership strategies of multinational enterprises (MNEs) in their affiliates, and how institutional distance may moderate this. Examining foreign affiliates of listed Turkish MNEs, we find that a high ratio of independent directors is negatively linked to levels of equity ownership of MNE affiliates. We also find that a high ratio of inside directors on the board is positively associated with the equity stake of MNEs in their affiliates. The viability of the proposed methodology is demonstrated via the sales representatives of Beko, a brand name controlled by Koç Group. We first develop a conceptual framework based on qualitative research methods – in-depth interviews and focus group sessions. We employ the principles of ANP methodology to examine and discover the inter-relationships among the OCBs. This process results in a descriptive model that encapsulates the findings from both qualitative and analytics methods. Necessity, altruism, departmental, compliance, and independence are the underlying dimensions of OCBs found to be the most influential/important. The key novelty of this study resides in designing and developing a prescriptive analytics (i.e. ANP) methodology to evaluate the OCBs, which is rare in the area of organizational behavior (a managerial field of study that have been dominated by traditional statistical methods), and thus serves as a useful contribution/augmentation to the business/managerial research methods, and also extends the reach/coverage of analytics-based decision support systems research and practice into a new direction.Yayın Entrepreneurial orientation, CEO power and firm performance: An upper echelons theory perspective(Emerald Publishing, 2023) Saiyed, Abrar Ali; Tatoğlu, Ekrem; Ali, Salman; Dutta, Dev K.; Tatoğlu, Ekrem; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüPurpose – Adopting insights from the upper echelons theory, this study aims to investigate the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and firm performance under the contingent influence of chief executive officer (CEO) power. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from a sample of large publicly-traded Indian software firms using the Prowess Database of Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). Panel data regression analysis was used to test the study’s hypotheses. Findings – The results indicate that EO has an inverted U-shaped relation with firm performance. Strong support is also found for a negative moderating influence of CEO power on the inverted U-shaped relationship between EO and firm financial performance, suggesting that powerful CEOs eventually harm entrepreneurial firms. Practical implications – The study encourages firms to have entrepreneurship orientation, but at a moderate level, to get the maximum benefit of EO. The study also explains to managers to what extent CEO power drives EO. Originality/value – The study contributes to the intersection of corporate entrepreneurship and upper echelons theory. The study shows that CEO power negatively affects the EO and firm’s performance relationship. This study holds important insights for managers of entrepreneurial firms, especially in international contexts and emerging markets.Yayın Impact of work-to-family and family-to-work conflict among cabin crew members on turnover intentions(İbn Haldun Üniversitesi, Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, 2023) Jabali, Nilo; Tatoğlu, Ekrem; Tatoğlu, EkremThe primary demand on frontline workers, which includes cabin crews and other airline workers, is the emotional demand, a workload that stems from work-to-family conflicts and family-to-work conflicts. The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship and impact of work-to-family conflict and family-to-work conflict experienced by cabin crew members of airline companies flying to MENA region on job stress and turnover intention, and testing the study hypotheses which reflect that employees experiencing high levels of WFC and FWC are likely to turnover. A purposive sampling from a population of English-speaking and a diverse range of years in the cabin crew profession was convenient to use a five-point Likert scale questionnaire designed with closed-ended questions enabling a sample of (154) male and female respondents' self-completion. The validity and reliability of the study questionnaire, which consisted of (16) items, were measured efficiently using the Pearson correlation coefficient and Cronbach's alpha for internal reliability. Collection of data done using Google form distributed using WhatsApp, e-mail, LinkedIn, and SMS. The questionnaire was constructed to assess 5 Factors (WFC, FWC, Job stress, and turnover intentions) and demographic characteristics such as gender, marital status, and number of children. Mean, and standard deviations are used for each of the items that represent each Factor. At the same time, Multiple linear regression analysis was used to test all the study hypotheses. The results of the study reveal that there is an effect of work-to-family conflict and family-to-work conflict on job-related stress. Moreover, there is an effect of job-related stress on turnover intentions. Effective management of the emotional and psychosocial effects of the pandemic is a critical issue for individuals and societies. In this study, the mediating role of creativity on the relationship between personal accomplishment and task performance was examined during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, a gender-based comparison analysis was performed to extend the analysis results. Survey-based research data were collected from 322 people working in different sectors. Partial least squares-based structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze research data. The results indicated that personal accomplishment had a significant positive effect on both creativity and task performance. Also, it was found that creativity had a mediating role in the relationship between personal accomplishment and task performance. Lastly, the gender-based multigroup analysis (MGA) revealed a significant difference between male and female participants with respect to the relationship between personal accomplishment and task performance, between creativity and task performance, between personal accomplishment and task performance through creativity.Yayın The impact of information system capabilities on firm performance: A serial multiple mediating model(Academy of Management, 2017) Aydıner, Arafat Salih; Bayraktar, Erkan; Tatoğlu, Ekrem; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüThis study essentially investigates the effects of information system (IS) capabilities on firm performance. The combination of the resources and competencies that comprise IS capabilities is demonstrated using the resource-based view (RBV). A set of hypotheses is formulated to examine the impact of IS capabilities on decision-making performance and business process performance through the application of the serial multiple mediating model. Drawing on a sample of 204 firms in Turkey, the direct and indirect relationships among the study’s constructs are determined using structural equation modeling (SEM). The test results confirm the proposed serially mediating model. The study also demonstrates that multiple casual links are required for IS capabilities to have an impact on firm performance.
