The way to produce in other countries in order to maintain their production at their own centers is to reach competitive production cost levels. Under these circumstances, firms focus on the idea of reducing costs by focusing on production systems and removing all activities that do not produce value and consume resources. One of the ideas that has emerged in recent years and will help the company in this regard is the philosophy of Lean Manufacturing. Value stream mapping is one of these tools. It is an important and effective tool because each process in the value chain of a product reveals a visual "map" and information flow. The textile industry, one of the labor-intensive sectors, has succeeded in developing its competitive power over time by acquiring new production and marketing strategies. With this study, it is aimed to show the success achieved by applying one of lean manufacturing technique which name is "value stream mapping" at a textile manufacturing company and to contribute to the literature.Yayın Biyoyakıt tedarik zinciri ağ tasarımı çalışmaları için özdüzenleyici haritalar ile bir literatür taraması(Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Mühendislik Fakültesi, 2020) Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Öztürk, Fatih; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Ayvaz, Berk; Karakoç, Melike; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme Bölümü; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüSon yıllarda çevre dostu yenilenebilir enerji kaynaklarına ilgi artmaktadır. This study incorporates fifty-three indicators on economic, social, environmental, and institutional dimensions to develop a Sustainable Cities Index (SCI) and assess the sustainability performance of thirty metropolitans in Turkey over 2010-2018. Turkish metropolitans constitute an appealing case study due to the rapid urbanization within the same time span. To answer how new metropolitans have been doing and whether they perform better than formerly declared metropolitans in Turkey, we propose a novel methodology with three stages that hybridizes Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (IT2F-AHP) and Complex Proportional Assessment of Alternatives (COPRAS). The former captures a high degree of uncertainty due to the subjective weight assignment by the experts, while the latter calculates aggregate scores for 30 cities. Finally, we conduct posthoc analyses to examine the significance of the urbani-zation policies in Turkey on the SCI scores. Thus, the study provides valuable insights into urbanization practices and encourages local administrations to spend more effort balancing the benefits and costs of public policies on sustainability.Yayın The evaluation of operational efficiencies of Turkish airports: An integrated spherical fuzzy AHP/DEA approach(Elsevier, 2022) Hacıoğlu, Ümit; Yılmaz, Mustafa Kemal; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Hacıoğlu, Ümit; Yılmaz, Mustafa Kemal; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Yılmaz, Mustafa Kemal; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Aksoy, Mine; Hacıoğlu, Ümit; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme Bölümü; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüThe demand for air transport services has significantly increased around the globe, which has brought new investments in airports, which, in turn, requires in-depth efficiency analysis of these capital-intensive endeavors. This study examines the operational efficiencies of 46 Turkish civil airports from 2015 to 2018. We employ a novel hybrid methodology that combines Spherical Fuzzy Sets based Analytic Hierarchy Process (SFS-AHP) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), which provides a solid basis for efficiency analysis. To this end, it can handle the hesitancy and uncertainty that the subjective evaluation process of input and output factors possess. Then, we use Self Organizing Maps (SOM), a machine learning method for clustering, to examine the effect of outlier airports on the efficiency scores. Finally, a posthoc analysis is conducted with Tobit regression model to assess the explanatory power of external factors on the efficiency scores, i.e., tourism potential, number of international flights, distance to the city center, population, public/private ownership, and age of airport. The findings show that 67.2% of the Turkish airports operate below the optimal efficiency level, and 93.5% of them should make considerable efforts to refine their operations by implementing managerial and structural changes to reduce input factors. The results also suggest that the airports located in high-density touristic areas achieve higher efficiency levels. Those relatively closer to the city center lead to more airport traffic, generating more revenues. Thus, both factors have a significant impact on efficiency scores. The study provides a novel efficiency analysis framework for airport operators and policy makers that helps them make informed decisions.Yayın Impact of social sustainability on supply chain performance with mediating effect of differentiation: The case of Moroccan manufacturing firms(Inderscience Enterprises, 2022) Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Elaiche, Aicha; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüThis study examines the relationship between social sustainability practices (SSPs) and supply chain performance (SCP) indicators in the context of Moroccan manufacturing companies with a three-step research methodology. Among the various supply chain KPIs used in the literature, the three most preferred by supply chain experts were selected with interval type-2 fuzzy AHP (IT2F-AHP) method, which offers an accurate approach in subjective decision-making situations. Afterwards, the data collected with the developed instrument were evaluated using the structural equation modelling (SEM) technique. Lastly, in order to understand the nature of the inferred relationship, the moderating role of differentiation, as a competitive advantage strategy, was assessed. The findings obtained show that there is a significant relationship between social sustainability and SCP for the Moroccan manufacturing sector, which may inspire further research in other developing markets. Additionally, it has been found that differentiation has a total mediation effect on the two aforementioned constructs' relationship.Yayın A fuzzy integer programming model to locate temporary medical facilities as part of pre-disaster management(IGI Global, 2019) Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Ayvaz, Berk; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme Bölümü; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüThe number and the scale of natural disasters have drastically increased over the last decades. One of the most vital stages of disaster preparedness is disaster response planning, and it plays an important role in limiting material and immaterial consequences, such as those caused by large scale earthquakes. In order to minimize human suffering and death, the aim of establishing a well-designed humanitarian relief chain must be to provide medicine, water, shelter, emergency food and supplies to the affected areas. From a holistic perspective, providing timely first aid and rapid transfer of injured victims to a medical facility is one of the most essential component of such chain. Thus, the location of first aid hospitals must be determined following a careful thought and planning process. This study presents a fuzzy integer programming model to determine the best location of the temporary hospitals which are expected to support extant state hospitals after a major earthquake. This study applies the proposed fuzzy model to the Üsküdar province of Istanbul and identifies optimum number and locations of field hospitals for a severe earthquake scenario.Yayın The impacts of COVID-19 on travel behavior and initial perception of public transport measures in Istanbul(Elsevier, 2022) Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Aydın, Nezir; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Deveci, Muhammet; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme Bölümü; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüThe epidemic disease emerged in Wuhan/China in December 2019, which primarily causes acute respiratory syndrome and spread worldwide in a very short time. Although the countries took numerous precautions, the spread of the virus could not be controlled. Furthermore, due to the inability to maintain physical distance and the excess of shared surfaces, public transport services also increase the risk of spreading. This study analyzes the changes in perceptions and behavior of passengers who use public transportation via a survey. The survey is developed to assess the behavioral change of passengers pre and post-pandemic of COVID-19. Outcomes showed a notable shift among transportation modes due to closure of venues, utilization of distance education, partial curfews in Istanbul. A further focal point of the study is the passengers’ attitudes towards preventive measures and their perceptions on how well responsible bodies have implemented the measures. Thus, it provides valuable insights into the changes in the traveling habits of city residents, which help the policymakers of public transportation.Yayın Designing reverse logistics network for end-of-life vehicles: A sustainability perspective in a fragile supply chain(The International Journal of Industrial Engineering, 2021) Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Ayvaz, Berk; Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Aydın, Nezir; Ertaş, Emine; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme Bölümü; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüEnvironmental guidelines in the automotive industry greatly emphasize the recycling, remanufacturing, and recovering of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs). Given the principle of extended producer responsibility, developing an effective reverse logistics network is the most significant digit ahead of the industry. However, initial attempts addressing the reverse logistics network design (RLND) problem were short-sighted, focusing on cost minimization. Undoubtedly, the whole concept of recycling was founded on the pillars of sustainability. Accordingly, reverse logistics network design must be motivated by long-term environmental and societal benefits. This fact has become even more prominent in the current pandemic environment as COVID-19 has added serious uncertainties and risks to the supply chain processes. This paper reiterates the essence of sustainability goals and proposes a multi-objective fuzzy mathematical model to RLND problem for ELVs under such a fragile and fuzzy environment. The coverage of the proposed model is to optimally determine the locations and numbers of the facilities and the flows among them concerning environmental, social, and economic aspects. Hence, the model aims to reach a robust compromise solution that leads to a resilient network design. A real case study on the ELV market in Istanbul/Turkey proves the merit of the developed model.Yayın The effects of frequent flyer programs in the airline industry on customer loyalty(Research and Development Academy, 2021) Kuşakcı, Ali Osman; Şahin, Hande; Mbowe, Baboucarr; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme BölümüCustomer Loyalty Programs are one of the handiest tools to raise brand awareness, and secure long-term and strong ties between a brand and existing consumers. Airline companies have been using frequent flyer programs (FFPs) to retain customers with the expectation of increasing passengers’ loyalty levels. The purpose of this study was to examine the significance of FFPs for customer loyalty, which is of great help for customer retention in the civil aviation industry in the sample of passengers flying from the new Istanbul Airport. Furthermore, we questionedthe effectiveness of various services and products offered within FFPs for loyalty, which is decomposed into two main components, behavioral, and attitudinal commitment of loyalty. We evaluatedthe significance of various demographic factors on passengers’ perception of FFPs services and privileges, and customer loyalty. The study confirmedthe vital role of FFPs to build up brand loyalty, where profession, duration of the membership to FFPs, and gender are essential factors.
